Masking Monday: Multi-Masking with the Trio of L’Oreal Pure Clay Masks

You all know I am a mask junkie and can literally mask every day of the week if it would not completely kill my skin. So naturally my interest was piqued by the hype around the L’Oreal masks when they first hit stores.

At the time of the launch, I was obsessed with the Body Shop Himalayan Clay Mask but I’d been growing more and more intrigued with the concept of multi-masking. They boasted brilliant ingredients at an all time low price point and everyone was raving about the results they produced.

Thus, in pure beauty blogger fashion, I could not just pick one so I ended up buying all three (much to my husbands chagrin) promising myself that this was my chance to try out multi-masking without going bankrupt.

According to L’Oreal ( who has recently launched two more masks in the range which I haven’t got my hands on yet), “Each contains a powerful blend of three pure clays and its own unique natural ingredient to unmask your most beautiful skin. “

At a mere R160 per tub (P160 at clicks or $12.99 ) and each glass tub boasting ten or more applications not to mention gorgeous refined packaging it seems to be a direct dupe for the likes of The Body Shop masks which go for about R300 (P300 or $30+). It seems to me that the entire aim of L’Oreal releasing these masks was to offer an affordable alternative  to the normally costly clay masks on the market while providing versatility to ensure they catered for as many skin types or skin needs as possible.

But like I said earlier, all I thought about when I saw the masks was that this would be multi-mask heaven for girls on a budget.

And boy, was I right.

But first, for those who are reading this and whispering WTF is multi-masking, let me break it down. Multi-masking is targeting different areas of the face with masks designed to treat the problems relevant to that particular spot i.e. one size does not fit all when it comes to your skin (particularly for those, like me, with combination skin).

For example, I get dryness and texture on my cheeks and want them to be supple and glowing however part of my forehead, nose and chin area (T-zone) get particularly oily and shiny during the day so in these areas I want a mask that will purify and mattify the area. I also have areas prone to blackheads and breakouts on my forehead and cheek bone area so I’ll need something to combat and detoxify these areas as well. Thus since my skin needs different things in different areas, using one mask will either irritate my skin in some areas or do nothing at all in some areas but if I target each area with a mask designed for what that area needs I’ll have the best results possible in all the areas.

There are hundreds of multi-masking combinations but for those who are nervous about where to begin L’Oreal has some really helpful diagrams showing possible combinations  (each colour represents one of their masks) on their website:

Now that I’ve explained, let’s jump back to my earlier statement about being right. My experience with the L’Oreal Pure Clay Masks has been a rather shocking and eye opening one. Apparently, the days of “investing” and selling a few organs to buy skincare that actually works seems to finally be coming to it’s demise. These masks are true game changers.

They deliver on their unique promises and pack a serious punch in the ingredients department. Although with the glow mask I had to give it a few tries before I saw a true difference, I will gladly vouch for these beauties any day. It’s like a ten (to fifteen) minute facial in a tub not to mention they don’t leave your skin over sensitive meaning you can totally wear makeup after (pro tip, the combination I used of the glow, detox and purifying masks will leave you the perfect smooth base for a flawless face). It’s also a great way to boost skin that has started looking textured and tired after a long day with a full face of makeup on (as I used them today).

Don’t believe me?

Let’s look at the results below:

My skin felt smoother and refreshed not to mention looking brighter. It was also less oily in my t-zone without drying out my cheeks and the amount of blackheads and texture had been reduced. My cheeks were soft, supple and glowy and due to the exfoliating properties of the glow mask there was no dry patches or unevenness left behind. I don’t think I’ll be single masking any more, I definitely prefer multi-masking and the tailor made results I can achieve with this method.

What do you think of the results?

Let me know in the comments below.

A quick side note before I sign off, I know this post is not done in my usual Masking Monday style however I intend to follow this post with  dedicated posts for each mask wherein I will break it down by packaging, ingredients, results and user experience. I’ll also answer any questions about each mask so don’t forget to leave any requests and suggestions in the comment section below.

Living for these masks,

Ra’eesah
